Living on an Island is the ultimate duality of isolation and communication.  Our ability to maintain a constant community is enforced by the surrounding water of Saltspring Island.  With a year 'round population of about 10,000 souls, we have have achieved stasis within our boundaries.  There is, however, an ebb and flow of residents that creates the major portion of our real estate market.  At times, ten percent of the total inventory is for sale.  Lately, that has dropped to around 5% as the inevitable recovery from the last recession begins.  The price of housing has returned to a realistic level and that has fuelled the latest surge of sales.  What may be a realization to folks considering a move to Saltspring Island is that the  appealing qualities of the  Island are not affected by economic trends.  With our own hospital, Performing Arts Centre, major grocery outlets, vibrant farmers market, and a school system (http://sd64.bc.ca/) that supports enrichment programs that are the envy of everyone, this place has created an Island of peace.  There are NO franchises, no traffic lights, very few street lights, and a never-ending supply of home grown music all year long.  As well, Saltspring is a destination for artists of all kinds.  Check out this link:
